We hope to contribute to a future where everyone in the city can thrive.

Mission & Vision

Founding Story

In the midst of the pandemic, a group of women came together with a shared vision: to harness the power of collective philanthropy to uplift our community. Founded in 2021, the Hera Giving Circle was born out of a desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of women, children, and families in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our Namesake

In Greek mythology, goddess Hera was celebrated as the protector of women and childbirth. We chose Hera as our namesake because it reflects our commitment to supporting the well-being and empowerment of women, children, and families in our community.

Power of

Giving Circles

As one of the fastest-growing philanthropic vehicles in the country, giving circles are projected to give $2.9 billion by 2025. We're proud to be part of a movement that's changing the face of philanthropy by uniting people through shared values and collective giving.

The San Francisco Foundation

Founded in 1948, the San Francisco Foundation is one of the nation’s largest community foundations — a grantmaking public charity dedicated to improving life within a specific local region.

SFF’s mission is to mobilize resources and act as a catalyst for change to build strong communities, foster civic leadership, and promote philanthropy in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are honored that all Hera Giving Circle donations are held in our Donor Advised Fund (DAF) at the San Francisco Foundation.
